Configure the Number of Commitment Change Order Tiers
Objective
To configure the number of Commitment Change Order (CCO) tiers for your project's Commitments tool.
Background
When you initially set up the Commitments tool for a project, you can choose between a 1-tier, 2-tier-, or 3-tier configuration setting. The setting you choose determines how many steps are required to managing change orders for your project's commitments. See What are the different change order tiers? This setting must always be configured before your project users start creating CCOs. It is also important to note that the system will NOT permit you to change this setting after your team starts creating change orders.
Things to Consider
- Required User Permissions:
- 'Admin' level permissions on the Commitments tool.
- 'Admin' level permissions on the Commitments tool.
-
- To learn about the supported change order tiers in Procore, see What are the different change order tiers?
Important
- Your change order tier setting MUST be configured in Procore before you create the first commitment on the project.
- If you do NOT specify a setting, the default setting on the tool is the 1-tier configuration.
- It is strongly recommended that you do NOT change this setting after you have created Commitment Change Orders (CCOs) on your project.
- If your team is considering changing this setting during the course of the project, please be aware of the following before making a setting change:
- You can increase the number of change order tiers at any time. For example, you can change a 1-tier setting to a 2-tier setting in the Commitments tool.
- You cannot decrease the number of change order tiers unless you first delete ALL of your project's existing change orders.
Workflow
Depending on the configuration you choose, your users will follow the workflow detailed below to manage changes for your project's commitments.
Steps
- Navigate to the project's Commitments tool.
- Click Configure Settings
.
- Select one of these options from the Number of Commitment Change Order Tiers drop-down menu:
- 1-Tier (One-tier, a.k.a. 'single-tier')
Users only need to create a CCO when there is a change on a commitment The CCO can then be sent to the appropriate project users for review and approval. - 2-Tier (Two-tier)
This is the tool's default setting. With two tiers, your project users will first create one or more Commitment Potential Change Orders (CPCOs). The change orders are then grouped into a CCO, which can then be sent to the appropriate project users for review and approval.
Note: If your company or project's billing process does NOT require you to group all of the approved change orders for the month into a single, combined change order for final signature, the two-tier configuration is the recommended setting for the Commitments tool. - 3-Tier (Three-tier)
With three tiers, your project users will first create one or more CPCOs. The change orders are then added individually or grouped into a Change Order Request (COR), which can then be submitted to the appropriate project users for review and approval. After approval, the CORs can be grouped into a single CCO.
- 1-Tier (One-tier, a.k.a. 'single-tier')
